I have TMJ. It's been killing me for a month now. I can't eat or talk or even sleep without medication. I have resorted to taking 2 Alive, 3 Tylonel, and 4 motrin at once. Is there anything else that I can do to help it??

You are only making your problem worse by taking that much medication. Infact, you are putting your life in danger because you are destroying your liver, and more quickly than you would imagine. I suggest you go see a physician about this. I also recommend that you get on a medication for anxiety. Much of TMJ is caused by clenching the jaw when anxious. You may be clenching your jaw purely because you are anxious about the pain. It's a terrible cycle. I also recommend that you drink a licorice tea, which is a natural anti inflammatory and helps to soothe and relax. I wish you the best. I also have TMJ.

7 years ago I've been involved in a car wreck and even since suffered with severe on and off facial and jaw pain. I've tried almost everything western medicine had to offer and had visited countless of specialist, had done ct scans, and therapies but to no avail. The doctors I have been to had persisted that there wasn't anything wrong with me and that almost drove me crazy as I was going through hell from this condition. According to all my symptoms I was diagnosed by a holistic doctor as having TMJ and he had recommended this book to me. After following the recommendation in the book for several weeks, it had changed my life. I got immediate relief after following the unique set of exercises in the book and after 2 weeks the jaw and face pain had completely gone. I only wish I would have ordered this program years ago. It would have saved me a lot of pain and anguish.

I agree you shouldn't take so many drugs. If you go see your doctor you can get a prescription to go a physical therapist who specialized with the temperomandibular joint and they can show you some simple things to do that will help with the pain. You will also need a night splint made because you are clenching your teeth when you sleep. You can pay a bunch for one, or you can pick one up at CVS and mold it yourself. You might just try that first and see if your symptoms subside, and if not go to your physician and ask to see a PT who specializes or is knowledgable with the TMJ.

I would suggest you get a night guard (they are custom made) at your dentist's.
Also I used to have a jaw that locked up on me frequently when I was a teenager. I was given some exercises that I still use to this day (I'm an old girl now) whenever my jaw starts acting up on me. Here is what you do:
Put your jaw on the heel of one hand, similar to the way you would do it if you were sitting at a table and wanted to rest your jaw while watching tv or listening to someone talk. Push up on your jaw with that hand very FIRMLY.At the same time, try to open your mouth. In essence you are trying to close your mouth with one hand, and trying to open it with your jaw. It really strengthens your jaw and helps with the pain.
