My little silky is quite active. But the last couple of days when she is running around havin fun she lets out little yelps like she is in pain. She is 8 months old. Could she be about to go on heat for the first time?

I should have mentioned that I have given an inspection all over. Gently pressing all over her legs, joints, body etc to see if she is sensitive anywhere. She took it with no problems. I did a thorough inspection of her paws and found no foreign objects or wounds. Her toenails might be a bit long. I'll look into having them clipped. And a visit to the vet.

I would definitely have a vet check her. But even before that, check her paws. in between the pads, as well as the toes.. check her nails that one is not damaged. continue checking up her legs to the hip and shoulder joints. Note any "hot" areas. could be a slight strain or sprain and the "hot" area wold indicate that type of injury. My older dog did this when she was a pup too and it was discovered that she had some hip problems.. nothing really serious that would require any kind of surgery or anything, but enough to hurt when she ran too hard or moved the wrong way. I highly doubt that this would be because she is coming into heat. Not when it is happening when she is running 8) If you don't find an obvious cut , splinter, etc. take her to the vet.

Hi! Well...puppies have lots of different noises (as I'm sure youre well aware of). Sometimes they just yelp to express themselves, especially if it' when she's playing. What about if you were to run with her.. not playing.. just running.. or a quick walk? Is she showing any signs of favouring a leg or paw? Any limping or licking one area alot? If these questions are a "no"... then she's probably ok. Could be as simple as growing pains. Let it go a few days.. and if it continues and it's worrying you, then theres nothing like peace of mind from an expert.

I would check her paws to see if she has anything stuck in between her toes. Then check the length of her nails - if they are too long get her groomed. (A good way to tell is to let her walk on the kitchen floor if you hear them clicking get her clipped). Another possible problem could be hip displasia, a very common problem with many breeds. If it's not a sticker or her nails being too long, take her to the vet.

Check her paws, she may have picked up a sliver. I have never heard a dog in heat yelping when running. She is in some sort of pain.

It could be a problem with one of her paws. Move each leg around to see if they are tender. Then squeeze each paw to make sure she has not picked up a small foreign object. Good luck!

The first thing that I would check would be her paws...she may have something stuck in it that causes her to yelp out like that....if not that then check her hips for swelling she may have fallen over something or off a couch...good luck let us know what happens!

It sounds like she may have injured her leg, or paw somehow. I would have a vet, check her out. You might want to check her paw and see if she may have stepped on something outside, that may be stuck in there.

No, I doubt she would do that if she was in heat. Instead I'm thinking somethings off with the paw/hip? Consult you're vet, they'll know what to do.
