I have pressure washed dozens of engines. I don't put water on a hot engine and I always dry the distributor, usually with compressed air. Worst case you will have to let the thing dry out before you can start it but that happens to me so infrequently that it is hardly worth mentioning. I do recommend that the owner bring the car to full operating temperature and operate for at least a half hour. That dries out everything that could cause condensation and later starting problems.

try to avoid the alternator and the fuse box. Also if the motor is hot keep it running don't spray a hot block while it is turned off, let the car cool off before spraying and remember stay away from spraying directly on the electronics. A little water probably won't hurt it. Also you wouldn't want to stick the hose into the breather either.

If you are talking about washing it, then no it will not hurt it. You do want to be careful not to spray into the alternator and try not to overdo it around electrical connectors. if possible let it air dry off some before starting it. Also don't spray into the intake for the air filter.
