43. want a list? Hit search. Or keep reading.

Jitte, jion, jiin, matsukaze, wanshu, rohai, bassai dai/sho/tomari/matsumura, kosukun dai/sho/shiho, chinto, chinte, seienchin, sochin, niseishi, gojushiho, unshu, seisan, naifanchin shodan thru sandan, aoyagi, nipaipo, sanchin,

screw it. It's 43, ok? and way too many. BTW I practice Shito ryu.

edit: maybe 50 if you count certain things as seperate. The reason for Shito-Ryu having so many kata is that good old mabuni wanted to honor his teachers Higaonna and Itosu and took all the katas from their arts of shuri te and naha te and called his style a name that combines the on-yomi pronounciations of the first kanji of each of their names. Thus the seemingly endless kata list and a style that takes a longarse time to learn. However, that isn't such a problem for very experienced martial arts masters because they'll study around three just to get a wide breadth of knowledge to teach. My own instructor teaches Shito-ryu karate, hakko-ryu jujutsu and kobudo. With credentials covering every wall for each.

www.shitokai.com will give you good info on about 30 shitoryu kata. Plus they have videos for most. I have read of up to 60 kata in shitoryu, although I have only seen about 50 listed. I have started a website with the goal of listing and providing information on all shitoryu kata, but I just started.
