Yes, unless you actually lose the fat, your stomach will not get any smaller. Working the abs tones and builds the muscles, therefore making the stomach look bigger. That is great if you just want to build up the abs, but if you want a smaller stomach, then you need to lose body fat too.

It may be possible, but to build a visible amount of muscle to make your stomach bigger would be pretty hard because at the same time (assuming you would be doing cardio) your body fat would be decreasing...
I think it's more than a myth than anything... Concentrate on cardio exercise and some weight training to shift the fat before you bother with ab work. Do some core strengthening exercises instead.

That just means that you'll build up muscle underneath your stomach fat, which may make you look fatter. It's important to do fat-burning excercise in addition to the ab muscle work out, that way the fat gets burned away as new muscle is being made.

Shouldn't be that much bigger. Anyway, fat cells don't go anywhere, they just become smaller, any way you will look better in the end than what you probably look now with fat covering your stomach

the fat thats covering your stomach will turn into muscle eventually. if you keep working out your abs. and muscle weighs more than fat. i cant say whether or not it will get bigger. what i would advise is to do alot of cardio workouts so you can burn fat and keep working out so you can build muscle. good luck!

Ehhh...depends. If you strictly workout your abs only, and everything about you remains constant. The muscles in your abs could enlarge and with the added fat overtop, your stomach could look bigger...but eh.....

it really depends on the individual...
if the abdominal muscle is untrained then the person may see a slight increase in muscle size (hypertrophy) when those muscles are stimulated with crunches, sit ups, etc.. this growth will be short lived as the muscle will only grow but some much with bodyweight only training as the "load" used to stimulate the muscle is unchanged. if added resistance is used to train the abdominal muscles then additional muscle growth may be seen.
