When I was tattooing, this was my standard aftercare recommendation:
Vitamin A&D ointment (a VERY THIN coat...just enough to keep the tattoo moist, and prevent scabbing) for the first 5 days. The antibiotics in Neosporin tend to lose their effectiveness after the first 36 hours (due to a minor, and temporary tolerance you'll build up).
Once the tattoo has started to flake, switch to a vitamin a&d lotion (vitamin E works too). Keep the tattoo moisturized for at least another week to 13 days. Make sure the lotion is fragrance free.
Some places sell after care products, but IMO, the things that you can get at the local pharmacy work just as well...and in some cases are less expensive. Good luck to you.

I personally do not use any antibiotic ointments, they are known for drawing ink out of the skin.
I swear by Black Cat aftercare soap, ointment, and lotion. All have natural bases, and work amazingly well. Healing time is much quicker for me than with plain aquaphor and lubriderm. Their products are not petroleum based :o)
My tattoos never scabbed, healed quickly, and are super bright!
A picture of my partial piece that takes up my arm, and back, it is far from done, missing most of the major dark shading...we're 14 hours into this, 3 sittings, lots of washing, and keeping it moist...my inner arm and under the koi is fresh ink...

neosporin is not good. it doesnt let the tattoo breathe because it is too thick and it pulls out the color as part of the healing. actually, neosporin isnt all that grat for anything. it does not help in minimizing scars and it has a higher chance of giving you an allergic reaction.
i use bacitracin for the first couple of days then switch to non-scented lotion.

After the tattoo has started pealing, they suggest using a lotion without fragrance. I use the shea body butter from The Body Shop. It doesn't have any added fragrance or alcohol and I think that it helped my tattoos stay bright and heal well.

any triple antibotic ointment for the first 4-5 days will be good ,than any lotion after that till it stops peeling, just don't let it dry out. I personally like to use Bag Balm because I use it on my foot heels they dry and crack so bad and it works great for that and works great on new ink

I prefer tattoo goo. you can get it from the place where you were tattooed. I used lubriderm on my last tattoo and it faded it and drew out some of the color. I would recomend the tattoo goo definately

Probably the best thing to use is Aquaphor (made by Eucerin) it's a healing ointment and is actually used on burn patients. My tattoos healed very quick and they look awesome.
