okay so carbs give you energy, and i heard that you should eat them before a sports event. so if i have a sports event at 6:00pm tommorow, when should i eat the carbs so that i get energy at that time? like.. how long does it take for carbs to turn into energy? can someone please explain?

Actually, you need carbohydrates to maintain your glycogen as well as your blood sugar.

Glycogen: This takes about 12 hours to replenish so have a good dinner the night before and a good breakfast the day of. Starches convert to glycogen more efficiently than fruits because starches are chains of 6 carbon molecules (like glycogen) but fruits contain fructose which is a 5 carbon molecule.

Blood Sugar: What you eat shortly (within 1 to 2 hours ) should be low glycemic index. Many fruits are good for this because fructose burns slowly and does not involve insulin.

Both types of carbohydrates should be reasonable high fiber to lower the glycemic index.
