why should we deny these children a future? yeah, sure, the parents came here illegally, but i thought this was a land of oppurtinity. yes, i'm aware that some illegals bring down property value, go on welfare, yadda-yadda, but they give us something, though..culture. cesar chavez, anyone? thomas ALVA edison? we would not have unions, and we'd still be reading by candlelight. so, back to the question. why are we gonna punish these so called "anchor babies"?

Sure, they're innocent children but just because their parents failed to follow the law doesn't mean we should be the ones to pick up the slack and pay for these families with children that they have no chance of affording in the first place.
What about American children who need homes?
I'm sick of hearing about how we should take in everyone who wants a better life. I'm sorry, but last time I checked I wasn't a mother, and neither is the US to anyone else.
People need to deal with the cards they've been dealt and follow the damn law. I have no sympathy for anchor babies. They should all be deported.
The parents KNEW that they were putting their child in a dangerous situation in the first place - let them reap what they've sown. It's not our obligation.

Cesar Chavez was born in Arizona (and was violently against illegal immigration for driving down the working wage), Thomas Alva Edison was born here as well. And I don't know specifically about Chavez, but TAE's parents were here legally. Given Chavez's actions in picketing INS to have them deport illegals working in the fields, I suspect his were as well.
Where on earth do you get your facts?
And we aren't punishing them. Their parents don't belong here, though, and WE should not be punished by having to continue supporting them, crowding and draining our services with them and enduring the illegal wage competition they bring.
All countries in the EU have abolished birthright citizenship as has Canada. That is because it is subject to abuse. Nowhere has it been as abused as here. We need to change that law.
WE did nothing wrong.
summermoondancer, then why did they picket INS offices?

"Here's the ironic part: Despite the fact that Chávez is these days revered among Mexican-American activists, the labor leader in his day was no more tolerant of illegal immigration than the Arizona Minutemen are now. Worried that the hiring of illegal immigrants drove down wages, Chávez – according to numerous historical accounts – instructed union members to call the Immigration and Naturalization Service to report the presence of illegal immigrants in the fields and demand that the agency deport them. UFW officials were even known to picket INS offices to demand a crackdown on illegal immigrants.
And in 1973, in one of the most disgraceful chapters in UFW history, the union set up a "wet line" to prevent Mexican immigrants from entering the United States. Under the guidance of Chávez 's cousin, Manuel, UFW members tried at first to convince the immigrants not to cross. When that didn't work, they physically attacked the immigrants and left some bloody in the process. It happened in the same place that the Minutemen are now planning to gather: the Arizona-Mexico border.
At the time, The Village Voice said that the UFW conducted a "campaign of random terror against anyone hapless enough to fall into its net." In their book, "The Fight in the Fields," Susan Ferris and Ricardo Sandoval recall the border incident and write that the issue of how to deal with the undocumented was "particularly vexing" for Chávez. anchor baby's should have rights only if both parents are legal. this is the land of opportunity, only for natural born Americans and legal citizens have a right to that freedom. we dint want illegals here and they can take their anchor baby's back with them. don't you think the anchor baby's are being denied living in the land their parents come from? illegals are very selfish.

Illegal immigrants and there spawn are a drain on our society's limited resources. At the present time they are considered US citizens because of a misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment which was created to give slaves US citizenship. This must change. We allow millions of aliens into this country every year, more than the entire European Union! We cannot assimilate all of these people.
It is an utterly insane policy to let in millions of illegal aliens every year, most of them illiterate Mexicans who have no loyalty to the US. Most of the children of these illegals are poor students and are more loyal to their parents country than to the US.

cesar chavez wasn't against illegal immigration he was against temporary replacement workers and reported those who refused to unionize. There is a difference. He was for them if they refused to be treated as temporary replacements during the strikes and if they were willing to unionize.

Why should their parents deny their children of living in their own country?
If they are born here to anyone that is here illegaly the baby is not an American, they are subject to the country that their parents are subject to.
No one here told them to trespass and if they have kids here then they need to leave with them. If anyone is punishing them then it is the parents, maybe because you shouldnt have babies that you cant take care of, take them to their own country and let that government take care of them. We have to take care of our own!!!
