i'm not sure where you live, but i had a similar situation. (my sister was 25, but you know). she threw me the cutest little picnic. it was easy and fun, but we have great weather in arizona. we all wore sunhats, and little sundresses. it seemed old fashioned and cute, like we were little ladies in the 50's or something. tea parties are fun too! you can get a lot of games online if you search for bridal shower. we played bridal shower bingo, and some other cheesy games that are surprisingly funny if you have a fun group of girls (which i am sure you do).

Three big ways to keep the bridal shower costs low are 1) Having at your own home/backyard vs renting a place and 2) Making the food yourself and 3) Having a limited guest list. I don't think most people expect elaborate meals when at a bridal shower. A beautiful tossed salad, a hot dish that can serve many (like stuffed shells/baked ziti) some nice bread and a cake is very cost effective. You could also go the cold route and serve trays of cheeses/meats/vegetables/fruit and a dessert. There is no need to serve any alcohol at a shower either. A nice punch, lemonade, soft drinks and coffee/tea is more than enough. You could also not do a meal and call it a "Bridal Tea" and serve petit fours, scones, cake, and small sandwiches. You would prob. have to have a tea sometime around 2-4 in the afternoon so people don't expect a meal. Have your 16 year old "work off" all the money you are spending by making some simple favors, decorating and helping you cook, serve, and clean up. Depending on the number of people you plan on inviting, I'm sure you could host the entire shower for a hundred dollars or less if you are a frugal shopper. Good luck and congrats on being a nice Mom!

How wonderful to hear that a family is actually working together! I think I might faint.

Some light refreshments a few dumb games and you're daughter can be proud of the shower she gives her sister.
Please don't take this honor away from her. I know the financial burden falls to you, but may a suggest you give her a set amount & let her work within that budget.

Invitations can be made or gotten at a Dollar Store. You can get plates, napkins, cups & utensils there as well.
A cake can be bought at a large chain grocery store or Walmart. (& they're good, too)
Add some chips with this.
A VERY good party punch is a sherbet (I favor orange) in a punchbowl with cold lemon-lime pop poured over it.

Now all you need are the games & prizes.
That wasn't too painful now was it?
Do this about 2pm, between meals & it will be more than plenty.

Ps. Is your daughter able to sew or is crafty? Could make some really nice game prizes.

Instead of having a big party for the shower how about an after tea on Sunday being that the maid of honor is under age this is great finger sandwiches and tea be it hot or cold a cake or cupcakes simple decoration and some fun games like dress the bride with toilet tissue other games fun free of adult situations have it in June or July less is more the key to every party

Ohh wow, there is really no reason as to why this shower should cost this much. My wedding shower is this May and renting a room at The Best Western in my area only costs 150.00 and with food and favors and games it will only amount to maybe $400-$500. This is with about 70 people as well!! There are so many things to look at and ways to save. Definitely try a banquet room closer to your home at a hotel. By catering it yourself....you'll pay a lot less. Good Luck!! Congrats as the mother of the Bride!!

My briday shower was pretty cheap, but my maid of honor had help from a lot of my family. A family member (who is a baker) made the cake, and my maid of honor hosted it at her house. She bought meatballs from Cosco's (they have the best and they were cheap) and my mom supplied a covered dish, veggies and fruit. My mom had my grand parents supply the soda and juice, and my kind maid of honor's mother brought a couple of bottle of cheap champagne. All in all it was under $150 for almost 40 people. We only played1 game do to the amount of people who showed, but my maid of honor made baskets up w/ stuff from the dollar store as door prizes.

The lastest bridal shower I went to had soda, and juice., a small fruit and veggie tray, and a small tray of cheese and crakers. My friend hosted at her house and it cost less than $50 for about 25 people. (she made door prizes from targets $1 section-which she started stocking up on a few months in advance, along w/ pic. frames and candles from the dollar store-which she put in to baskets from the dollar store. Oh yeah and making the trays your self is more time consuming but A LOT cheaper than the store bought ones.

A relative or pals abode of direction! it fairly is the only thank you to have a low priced or loose area. you additionally could have it outdoors and not strictly interior, if the home is small. your human beings or between the bridesmaids might desire to have a remarkable abode sufficiently huge for this. The innovations I easily have could be outdoors in a public place or hire the close by church function corridor. Or have a brunch at a close-by inn. I easily have seen this achieved many cases the place they hire out the get entry to way of the inn or a function room for a brunch. And the inn additionally makes the nutrition for the brunch.

Gee, showers aren't expensive at all! Have it at your home, have family members bring over their favourite snacks, desserts, appetizer thingies; put up a few bells and streamers, have a few inexpensive things for prizes for games, make some punch - and that's it. Very low cost and LOTS of fun!

get a bunch of limes and some sprite and a little sugar and make limeade, have little finger snacks like nuts and candies and cheese & crackers etc...
and get some fresh flowers for the bride-to-be. shouldn't need more than that except the guests.!
