Unexplained weight gain and fatigue are two symptoms of hypothyroidism. The only clear sign you have a thyroid problem before seeing a doctor is a goiter.
See a doctor and have a blood test.

What you are describing are two symptoms of hypothyroidism, but it could also be many other things. No your Father is wrong. It is true, your hair may get thinner and not be as shiney, but that hasn't happened to me and I've been on meds for 3 years. Ask your Mom if you can go to your family doctor and ask for a TSH, freeT-3 and a T-4. Good luck and I hope you feel better,♥♥

Does you dad have some kind of xray vision? He can see hormones in your blood?
Because the only way to know if you have a thyroid problem or not is to get a blood test and find out how much thyroid hormone you have in your blood. You need a free T3 test and a free T4 test. The doctor will only want to do a TSH test, but make sure he does the T3 and t4.

It's not necessarily obvious, I didn't know I had it until it cropped up in a blood test. Fatigue and weight gain could indicate underactive (hypo) thyroid, but you need to be tested to be sure. For me the test was part of a routine physical.

yellow skin is jaundice not thyroid.sunkeneyes is from GI disturbance called gastroenteritis and sunken eyes is a sign of dehydration from severe diarrhea or vomiting seen in babies that caught bacteria from contaminated foods or virus, salmonella.low thyroid is found by having blood levels checked.Signs are low energy, tired, weightgain dry skin, brittle nails, and coarce hair, depression, and many other complications. medication keeps blood levels at normal values and symptoms should subside unless left untreated for more severe complications such as myxedema which then needs hospitalization.
