It would be okay for you to go swimming. Oh. And by the way, Happy 17th birthday! Hope it's fun unlike mine. I hope you don't cry at the end of your Birthday like I did.

I have 4 tattoos and all of them i was told that i would have to wait 1 week after getting a tattoo in order to be able to go swimming or soaking it in water. My first 2 tattoos i was a life guard, i went swimming, but only for about 5-10 minutes at a time. When i get my tattoos my artist tells me no exposure to the sun for 2 weeks and no prolonged soaking for 1 week. i haven't had any problems with ANY of my tattoos. If it hasn't been atleast a week and you go swimming the chlorine will mess the coloring up. The chlorine will fade your tattoo.

My artist says no chlorinated water for 1-2 months to truly protect the tattoo from fading.

Its up to you if you want to go swimming, but I'd hold off for a bit for the sake of your tattoo.

I think the chlorine in the pool would fade the tattoo. It generally takes about 2 months for it to be entirely healed. A week is not long enough. And don't tan it just yet. I'd cover it up for at least another month.

I've been told that you don't let your tattoo 'soak' in water for at least two weeks after getting it done (ex: swimming, taking a bath) - though running water is ok - like a shower.

If it has healed well then you should be fine. After two weeks you should be OK with going swimming...BTW how did you get a tatttoo at only 16???

stop by the tattoo place and ask the artist his opinion. every person heals differently. chlorine and or salt water will mess up a tat that isn't fully healed. and it's painful.

my tattoo artist suggests not getting into any water other than a bath or shower for one month following a tattoo. even tho it is healed there may still be microscopic places on your tattoo that aren't healed that can allow bacteria to get in.

Ahem, if you don't know, then don't go!
Maybe you should have thought that out before you got the tattoo that says Grandma on your butt!
