I think I suffer from depression, but I'm not really sure, and I want your guys' opinion on if I do or not. I never really use to be this way but lately (as in the past couple of months...) I've been really down and not really energetic like i use to be or anything. I've thought about death plenty of times, I feel left out and abandoned by everyone, I'm always extremely tired and my sleeping patterns have changed rapidly, I'm never hungry and never eat much, I get irritated easily, i've lost interest in so many things that i love, i'm more self-conscious, i pretty much shut myself out from the world, and find myself wanting to cry for no reason at all, along with many other new things that I feel. So please tell me, do you think i'm suffering from depression or is this some teenage girl hormonal thing?

It sounds to me you suffer from depression since you have more than 5 symptoms that belong to that illness. Depression is caused by an imbalance in brain neurotrasmiters that cause lack of energy, lack of concentration, cry burst, lack of appetite, feelings of worthlessness, etc. You are not alone, there is thousands of people around the world going through a similar situation. But nowadays there is help. You can seek professional help- A good psychiatrist can diagnose you and treat you. He will give medicines if you need them. The medicines will diminish your symptoms. Meanwhile you should get involved in activities such as exercise, yoga or acupuncture (they are all proved to improve depression). I tell you this because I went through a depression myself. By the way, hormones are linked to neurotrasmiters so its all related. Argentox2@yahoo.com.

This sounds like what I went through. After at least three months I finally got put on medication which has helped me immensely. I am also a teenage girl and I thought the exact same thing (about the hormones) but this wasn't the case. The best thing to do is tell your Mum (or carer) to take you to a doctor, you will find that pretty much everyone (family, friends, teachers) will be very supportive of you. Otherwise if you really are suffering from depression it won't go away for at least 9 months. If the time period you have been like this has been longer than 2 weeks (which you say it has).. then it is definitely a cause for concern.

Take care and hope this helps (at least a little bit).

Loud and clear: self-conscious. Nobody else that's depressed as much as the people I know is in the least self-conscious so you're into something interesting anyways.

Your Doctor an MD or even a Psychiatrist will probably say you're depressed to save the embarrassment of you truly being depresed but you will still have to get a BOH (Bill of Health) before you can accurately say you're depressed. And the only way you can do that is to see a Physician and find out for sure. If the stuff they give you works then you're depressed right?

I think you're suffering from depression but there's a lot more to you than that by the sound of it.

Could be you're ready for a new tangent and haven't heard yet.

As a teenager, it is very possible that it is hormonal. Your interests tend to change, and you become very easily offended. Teenagers, while they do occasionally suffer from depression, also tend to have it misdiagnosed. My advice is to always get a lot of sleep (you'd be surprised at the wonders that does), always eat breakfast (most important meal of the day, it sounds stupid but it is true), and enter things with an optimistic attitude.

Thinking about death is common, especially if you are intelligent. Your thoughts tend to lead to the inevitable, so that isn't always a bad sign. A lot of what you describe could also be caused by severe stress. Just relax some of the time, always use time management to give yourself enough time to just have time to put your feet up and take a breather.

Teenage girls and boys are often plagued by all the feelings you state, insecurities of how they stack up to others in their peer groups and in the media! Also your a girl so it could be hormonal, PMS "the blues" it can be traumatic! Other than that, yes, those are classic depression symptoms, so if you feel totally messed up, go see a Dr. and get counseling other wise comfort yourself that there are millions of teenagers feeling as you do. But do not neglect to tell your Mom or another adult and ask to see a Dr. if necessary! It could get worse left untreated if it is more than Premenstrual or teenage discontent.

This sounds like clinical depression to me. Make an appointment as soon as possible to see your doctor. You can discuss with him whether or not you want to try medication, but he can at least give you some names of therapists in your area that you could go to. Please don't be afraid to seek help for this!

Keep your chin up and smile when you can! Getting help is the first step to a brighter tomorrow :-)

I think it is a little of both, you really should go see a doctor so they can treat you, treating depression in teenagers is hard but they are able to do it, you may have to try a few pills first before you find one your body can get use to.

Only two ways to find out...

But I suggest you go to the Endocrinologist, a nutritionist and a Psychiatrist...

IN THAT ORDER!

i believe its normal. Open yourself up to new things and people. Depression usually occurs from drugs and alcohol, not normally from hormones. Feel Happy and Enjoy life!
