you cannot get arthritis from "popping" your joints in the hands or any other joint of your body. The reason you hear the popping sound is because air is being released from the area. According to my grandmothers rhumetologist, arthritis is the breakdown of the tissue between the joints and the loss of fluidity between them when our bodies naturally grow older. Many children have arthritis and i'm pretty sure that 3 and 4 year old children have no idea what "popping" or "cracking" their joints is. For more information on Arthritis do a web search and i'm sure you will find more answers to what causes arthritis. Here is a starting spot. www.mayoclinic.com. This site is a wonderful data base for researching things medical. Happy hunting.

It is a good possibility. You are wearing out the padding between the joints when you crack them. Once that wears out, inflammation will start, hence arthritis.

no arthritis is not caused by cracking knuckles. There are many types of arthritis but it is not caused by cracking of the knuckles. I've enclosed a link that might help you understand arthritis more. Andrew
