cell phone is very cheap here. I just bought one 2000 baht(phone) and 199 baht for Sim card (number) and 300 for Dtac happy ( prepaid card). ask someone at your hotel where can you get it or just go to MBK there are many choices.

good luck :)

If you have a GSM mobile phone with an open line (meaning it isn't locked to your network) you can buy a pre-paid SIM card for about USD8, use it with your own phone, and you'll have your own local mobile number.

If you have an extra USD50 or so, you'll be able to buy a new phone for yourself and depending where you're from, you can find one with the same bandwidth as the ones used in your country and use it when you get home as well.

MBK is a big shopping mall with a full floor full of mobile phones. You'll find the right one for you there. You can go there by taxi, but if you're near a BTS train stop, this will be a much easier and faster way to go there as a stop is directly connected to this mall.

Good luck.

I do not know about renting but you can buy them cheap.

There are an infinite number of shops throughout BKK. Probably in every crevice of the city.....LOL. I would recommend checking out Silom or Suhkumvit Rd - the shopping malls in these areas. Although there are small shops in just about every street.

You could probably buy one for under $50 usd. They sell them used too.

Once you buy one you can buy a calling card from 7-11 or some other convenience store.

Good luck!

If you want to rent, there are a couple of telcos booth at the airport for this purpose.

If you are in possession of a cell phone, it may be cheaper to buy a pre=paid SIM and use it with your handphone for lower cost. Or just stick to auto-roam with your existing phone and number.

Many options available.

im pretty sure you can get a SIM card from your mobile phone carrier in the US that will work in Thailand. this is what ive heard, but ive never done it since access to a cell phone has never been an issue for me as im always around at least 1 person with a cell. its worth checking into.
