I hate to encourage drug use but try smoking Marajuana, It is considered an exellent painkiller for bone pain.
If you dont like smoking ask your doctor to provide you with some hemp tablets.

Get well soon :-)

Fused vertebrae are inconvenient when you want to bend but they shouldn't be painful. Do you have a trapped nerve, referred pain, curvature of the spine, etc.? Having all of the above, and more besides, I have lots of medication. I am prescribed very large doses of IBUPROFEN (an anti inflamatory that can be bought without prescription in smaller doses) and a synthetic morphine (a strong prescription-only pain killer - the synthetic form is not addictive and so you can be on it for years) for use three times a day. I would advise you to go back to your doctor to find out what is actually causing the pain.

It's best to go back to the Doctor and tell him the whole truth about how much pain you are in, the type of pain and when it affects you. Give an idea by putting on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is the worst.
There are many types of pain killers and it's just about finding what works for you. For example there is morphine or Gabapentin,

going back to your doctor (in the UK) is not going to get you sufficent pain relief!
I know having had several operations on my spine I have had fused vertebrae and i even had metal pins and rods attached to my spine. in hospital the only relief i got from the pain was an epidural and you can not have those in for long.
even the strongest pain relief the NHS can prescribe Morphine was of no use to me.
I'm in agony on a daily basis so much so the pain is dibilitating and just getting out of bed and doing simple household chores is a painful struggle (i live on my own with no one to help).
if you see your doctor he may be able to prescribe morphine however as you are aware this is very addictive so he will never give you it for longer than 4 weeks in any one year. you will mostly be swapped around on different lesser pain meds that have little if any effect to reduce or kill the pain.

you have my sypathy here, as back pain is no fun, and often those around you see you attempting to put on a brave face and get on with your daily life as best you can. as the pain can not be seen they can think you are being less than truthful when describing how you feel. (i hope those who have not yet suffered back pain to the extent i have never have to go through it, and if they do i hope there friends and family believe them).

i hope you are pain free soon, but i've been in pain since 1994 (my first operation) and my last operration was in 2002/3 and each time the pain has gotten worse and worse. so much so that i have given up on seeing medical professionals for help. i just fight through the pain as best i can.
And yes often the pain is so bad you feel suicidal. (well i do), but you have to just hope that one day you will be pain free. and will be able to get your normal life back. But that is not an easy thing to do.
in 94, my spine was fused (hence the metal pins), since then the pins broke lose and i had to have them removed and my spine rebroken to form the vertebra again. (i suffer scoliosis kyphosis).

I hope the questioner does not have and is not as bad as me physically!

good luck, keep smiling even when you feel as though the pain is going to kill you on its own. Try to find and watch as much comedy as you can, the pain can be reduced by one or two percent just by watching great comedy. (it works for me)

if you need someone to talk to feel free to mail me. details in my profile.

See your gp and ask if theres a pain clinic near you. They can help you manage the pain, use the right drugs or physio for your condition.
Best of luck :)
