We just bought a Weimaraner puppy, she's 3 months old and when she's sleeping, or starting to fall asleep she shiver pretty intensely. We're not sure if this is normal for puppies or not.

Yes, it is normal. I have had several patients that have complained that their dog is shivering when he sleeps. I reccomend getting your dog to lay on a heating pad, set on low with a blanket on him. Also, if this doesn't work, he is likely to be having a bad dream. Or, if none of these are possible, then your dog just might be affected by seeing scary pictures when he closes his eyes.

Yes...Actually it is normal for pups to shiver when they sleep...some say that if your pup doesn't shiver? it is a sign that they are not "healthy"...although being 3 months old i am not sure how much they should still be doing this...Weimaraners are not known for their "heavy coat" are you sure that the area where the pup is kept is warm enough? If the pup does not do this when he/she is a wake then i would be less concerned...however if you have concerns you should ALWAYS consult your vet...Keep an eye on the pup...note any changes...you may find that within the next week or so..this "shivering while sleeping" will subside. Good luck to you

It is normal for puppies to shiver when they sleep, to an extent. If she is twitching her feet and ears, or making noises, she is definitely just dreaming. Also, if she doesn't shiver any other time, she's probably not cold. However, you should check her paws to see if they are warm enough when she starts to shiver. Since Weimeraner's have short hair, she may like to sleep with a blanket (when she's old enough to know not to chew it). But you really have nothing to worry about. Enjoy your puppy!

My papillon s coming up on five months now, and she shivers, too. I'm fairly sure it's normal, though it freaked me the f*ck out the first couple of weeks. She occasionally yips in her sleep, too, and groans when she rolls over. She a little weird, though, as she sleeps on her back more often than not.

When your puppy does this again lean down and talk to him in a soft voice say soothing things like good puppy gently pet them while you do this. I did this for my puppy and it does help they are just like us sometimes they have bad dreams and need to know that everything is ok.

While most pups twitch in their sleep, an all-over shake is kinda rare. She may even be having a seizure. Talk to you vet asap.
