Both get your pulse up.
Cardo is where you speed up everything to make the blood flow faster thru your body.
Reistance is where you pick up something heavy. That forces the blood into your muscles.
Combined, they make you stronger and healthier.

Cardio, is designed to work the circulatory and respiratory system (heart and lungs) by elevating the breathing and heart rate. This can be accomplished by long duration exercises at relatively light intensity (i.e. long distance running, walking, distance cycling).
Resistance exercise is any exercise which forces the muscles to contract against a significant resistance. The most popular type is weightlifting but it can include many others such as rock climbing, power yoga, and pilates.
Some types of exercises are combinations of both such as:
Aerobic interval training which is cardio with varying intensities such that the intense periods involve working against a significant resistance.
Circuit weight training which trains the different muscle groups and forces the heat to work harder to pump blood to different parts of the body thus creating a cardiovascular workout.

Resistance uses the body against itself as a counter weight so to speak, an equal force of pushing away with slow determined force and drawing back with same amount of effort exerted. Cardio is aerobic, meaning it's focus is increasing the heart rate to a maximum performance level that is healthy for a specific individual, (that rate is determined by calculating age, weight, height and physical health)and sustaining that rate; through exercises such as running or biking, the breathing is increased as well, exercising lung and heart
