I have recurring thoughts of suicide. I must highlight that i am absolutely not depressed, I've started university, and I've made new friends and I get along with my family really well. I'm happy with my life. But sometimes when I see a cliff or the edge of a high building I think about jumping off it. And also think about cutting myself. I don't think I'd ever actually do it. But why do I think about it? Is there something wrong with me.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Jem O

ok. more details: i often feel like everyone is out to stab me in the back and i'm irritable and have pretty bad mood swings. what could this be?

(i'm 18. I don't want to tell my parents because I don't want them to think they did something wrong. I also can't afford to a psychologist by myself.)

This started around late november. At first I got very emotional after I'd been drinking, and was seriously thinking about it. But now it happens when I'm looking out the balcony while watching tv. or even when i don't really feel anything. This is starting to really bother me.

just the mere fact that you are already bothered with these thoughts...there is something off with your subconscious that the conscious mind is not aware off. i suggest you go see a psychiatrist. they are in a better situation to analyze this. but find one you can trust & are comfortable with. being happy, having good friends and family are great. hold on to this. but there is something else amiss that manifests in your dreams.
you may be anxious about something so to help you out and alleviate this...go see a professional. it's not a big thing, it will just be like talking with a friend who is in a better position "to look into you".

That is a symptom of OCD, but it could be something much worse!

I suggest you get some help right away. because even if you are in a place now, where you can ignore these kinds of thoughts and rationalize them away... there may come a time when you all of a sudden... give in.

Call a local psychiatrist or if you can't afford that, then call your local non profit orginization...

Just for an evaluation... just to be sure!

It depends, if you think about these things because you are angry, upset or scared, and truly have a desire to act on them, you should seek counseling.

It could be a lot of things. There are a lot of mental and physical (usually something that effects the brain, hormones, or a side effect of a medication) that can cause suicidal thoughts besides depression.

It never hurts to get third party professional advice just in case.

Usually thoughts of suicide are related to depression. If you're positive that you're not depressed then maybe you are lacking something in your life. The cutting thing is sometimes related to a lack of the ability to handle emotion. It's a way to release something when you don't know how to release in any other way.If these thoughts are that serious, you really should see a professional.

think about everyone in your life that would miss you.
there is nothing wrong with you.
i cut myself for the first time yesterday and it was not exactly what i expected. it didnt' really make me feel any better just got my friends to yell at me because they thought i was going to die. it made me realize how much i have people that love.

Yes, there is something wrong. Something you may have hidden away in that complex mind of yours. Seek Professional help. And talk to your parents. It could have a lot to do with anxiety.

your not crazy. I think everyone thinks about it. It's always there because we here about it in the news and tv. The crazy part is if your not sure and think it could happen. If you feel strong and know you aren't going to give in to your thoughts you will be ok.

I really think that you should go & tell someone who can better deal with that kind of thing . Because unless people have gone through it or are trained in the reasons why people think about it then our advice will not help you . So please go & tell someone & no you are definiently not crazy!

You may have obsessive thought that will require medication. As long as you are functioning ok, not to worry.
However, it sounds like you are disturbed by these thoughts.
Keep a check on them & discuss with your MD if they persist or worsen.
