You can ethier cook it in a preasure cooker or in a pot of water.You boil the water then drop the artichokes in. Wait about 1 hour depening on the size of it. To see if its ready poke it with a fork. If you want it softer keep it in their for about 5 minutes then poke it again.

If you mean globe artichokes, you boil the young buds in salted water for about 5 minutes and serve with melted butter. Jerusalem artichokes are tubers of a completely different species of plant. You cook them like potatoes.

Steam them-get one of those little stainless vegesteamers that open up in your deep pan-like the one you cook pasta in-steam it updide down so the heat goes up between the leaves. When done,tear off the leaves to eat one at a time. Dip in a mix of mayonaise,salt,butter (melted) and slide leaf with the dip along your teeth to pull off the inner soft part-yum! Goes great with BBQ cornish game hen-a college weekend must for friends and I, years ago-

The best way is to steam them. It tahes around 45 minutes to an hour depending on size. Cut the bottom flat so the stand.
