I have a 22 month old daughter who loves Dora. I didn't allow her to watch T.V until was over a year old and now she sits in front of the T.V and waits for us to put Dora on. She will watch T.V unitl I turn it off. I've heard all the studys on children & T.V and am trying to be very careful BUT how much T.V is too much? She watches about an hour to two hours a day and not all at once.

I agree that if she is doing other things thru the day you are FINE! TV can be a very good educational tool... as long as you don't abuse it and use it as a babysitter all the time! I have 3 children, the youngest of which is three. He loves dora and Diego, and I'll be darned if he isn't counting and speaking some spanish because of it! Sit down with your little one when you do allow her to watch, and play the games with her. Use it as a tool to help you learn together and bond. Most of those studies on TV deal with violence, and language. Unless you let your 22 month old watch South park and other adult cartoons I wouldn't worry much! Take ideas from the show and make up your own games with your baby to play! Make a map to a treasure and give her a backpack with tools! (first you go thru the living room, down the hall and into the dining room.....) Have her count to three in English and Spanish....you'll be amazed at what she can learn! Good luck to ya!

My son watches more than that and he's only 18month. He loves Elmo, sesame street and Bear in the Big Blue House. It's on most of the time, (in the background) but he'll follow me around the house and when I go outside, even sitting down in front of the TV playing with him while it is on. He laughs at the funny bits and knows what is coming next. I don't see it as any problem as long as you are active with your child taking them to the park or playing outside. Any studies is someone elses opinion, do what you feel is OK for your children I say. If we did everything 'right' as studies told us life wouldn't be worth living. Enjoy life!

That amount is just fine, in my opinion. She enjoys certain shows just as you and I do. There's nothing wrong with letting her watch what she likes (in moderation...just like you're already doing). I think you're doing a great job in watching/moderating how much t.v. she's watching. A lot of parents don't even pay attention to that. To answer your question about how much is too much......when your child is indoors all day staring at the tube every chance she gets and she is treating it like a priority in her life...then it's way too much. Watching her favorite tv show or two every day is just fine. Shoot, I remember waiting all day to watch the polka dot door LOL

I do it too, it's the only way I can get my daughter to eat. She watches Elmo videos. I don't like Nick because they have regular commercials on, I prefer Disney channel and PBS because they don't have any. She only watches 20 minutes 3 times a day.

One or two hours a day seems ok to me. It helps too if you sit and watch it with her and make it more interactive, which you are probably doing. I think it'll be ok if you keep it at the one to two hour limit. Just make sure she has a lot of options other than TV so that she doesn't associate TV with the only thing that is fun.

I think that as long as she does other things, besides watches tv, she will be fine. Make it educational, like Dora or PBS though. Sit with her and talk with her. Good luck!

I would say that a few hours a day won't hurt anything. A lot depends on what they watch. If the show is good in your opinion then I would say it is ok. We don't watch a lot of cartoons here as my niece is more interested in the food channel. When she does want to watch cartoons she watches Doodlebops and Little Einsteins.

I think that is totally fine. As long as what she's watching is educational (which Dora is) and she is still getting plenty of outside time/playing time/exercise, then its totally fine. If anything I think TV helps them focus and wind down at nighttime. I always let my kids watch a video before bedtime.

Well as long as she is not sitting in front of the tv all day and she gets some sort of exercise I dont think that it is that big of a deal. My sister lets her son watch tv all day and he goes to bed with the tv on so that obviosly is too much.

Wow your doing better than me! I couldn't get my two year old to sleep without me in his big boy bed without putting on a movie! I made the mistake of letting him sleep with me at first. I did not make that mistake with his little brother. You sound like your letting her watch enough and not to much. Atleast Dora is edcational!
