Humans understand that not exercising is, well, bad for their health. Some humans understand this better than others. They trim their figures. Some actually enjoy it. Animals exercise. They may mean to, but we shall never know. For example, wolves run about in a pack chasing deer and whatever else. And they don't really need it, food is sometimes scarce for wild animals. So in result, they don't eat too much, yet still exercise as it is what they need to do if they are hungry. However, domestic pets, dogs, cats, e.c.t should exercise as they are fed by us everyday, maybe more than once a day. Dogs are always outside, cats laze about, but scratch and at night, go out and do whatever. We walk dogs. Cats walk themselves. But I don't think they realize things like weight, physical appearance.

In the beginning humans didnt' need to exercise because everthing they did naturally involved exercise like hunting and gathering and everday life. With the advent of technology came the sedentary lifestyle. People could make a living at jobs and get food that didnt' require hunting and gathering. Hence we discovered that when humans just sit around they get weak and accmulate excess lipids along with a whole plethora of health issues. In comes the "exercise" humans developed this to compensate this. Exercise also improves what is already there so if your are ok you can be in better shape that you already are by exercising.

Exercise is a necessity ... whether it is walking, or in the gym, riding a bicycle, or other form. Keep your joints moving ... it may not seem an issue when you are young, but as you age it will make a big difference. One major reason people should do some form of excercise ... your heart. Without it, well, you know the answer to that. Be wise ... everyone grows old .... and you want to make the best of life you can.

People need to exercise because it helps keep them with in the healthy weight range. This prevents some obesity related diseases so that they can live long and healthy lives with out being burdened by chronic diseases such as diabetes. It is also important to maintain muscle strength and also bone density to prevent MS. but along with exercise people need to eat healthy diets so that all of these things can take hold.

When we exhert ourselves, it tells our bodies that we're in a competitive environment; on the other hand, if we choose NOT to exhert ourselves, our bodies assume that all our niches are filled. You see, when we're in a competitive environment, food is usually harder to come by, so when our bodies process digested materials, we'll extract more or less nutrition from them based on our bodily needs, as it takes a lot of energy to digest foods. So one major reason for exercise is to condition your metabolism. A better metabolism means you're getting more benefit from the same amount of vitamins as someone with a less active metabolism would, and between exercise and use of those vitamins, this will affect the levels of chemicals in your body that control mood, weight, muscle mass, hunger, sex drive, and every other aspect of our beings- even our intelligence is affected. In addition, exercise works the heart, making it stronger and therefore less susceptible to disease, and strengthens the immune system, reducing the risk of infection and even cancer.

We need exercise for a variety of reasons and they can be complete opposites for different people.

Some people need exercise in order to burn calories, thereby fighting off obesity. Conversely others need exercise to stimulate the appetite.

Exercise also ensures that the heart can continue to function properly because exercise can reduce hyper-tension which increases positive blood flow.

People that choose not to exercise are lazy...period.

Think about it. The human race was not born into a world of luxury. Ancient man was deisgned to fight and survive against nature and the elements. Humans were ORIGINALLY designed to be lean, mean, fighting machines. Of course, humans also have big brains, and thus are intelligent and prone to laziness. As a result, we've been inventing things that make life easier since time began. And life has gotten easier. People don't NEED to be lean, mean fighting machines anymore....which is a good thing. But we should at least exercise enough in our modern world so that we wouldn't be utterly embarassed if we ran into our ancient versions of ourselves.

That said, the human body is capable of great feats of strength and endurance. I'm sure even our best athletes of today wouldn't rival the fitness of our ancient ancestors, who ran not to compete in sports......but to survive.

We did not evolve to our current state by sitting in an armchair watching Battlestar Galactica marathons and eating kettle chips. Otherwise, we would have a chair growing our of our *** and one arm with a scooped hand.

Therefore, our bodies are completely designed for what we have been doing for eons- running, fleeing, killing, planting, searching ,picking, shagging, climbing, creeping, crawling, and swimming. The body has been created around these activities and there is a relationship.

Of course, now people are complaining of stress, carpal tunnel syndrome, nearsightedness, etc. and it seems that we are charting a new course in the path of evolution. The stressed and burned out will start dying, or at least getting less pay (translating to less women, less kids, less spreading of their genes) and the tarzan of the future will be that smiling dork in the next cubicle who always turns in his weekly reports on Friday morning....

well.. if you're giving a speech you can't use "yahoo answers" as a resource for your speech. If you did I'm sure the teacher would give you an F... I can suggest some items for research tho.

look up information on human development. Specifically on how we evolved from apes to upright walking humans. you should be able to find some credible information in an encyclopedia or research publication that talks about how human beings developed not to walk... but we actually evolved to RUN. Early human beings would chase their prey at a marathon runners pace for extremely long distances and tire it out making it easy to catch and kill. Human beings can actually run the farthest/longest for their size (yeah people ride horses... but they're much FASTER than we are and so useful in that way).
The shape of our bodies actually proves we are made for running not walking. (look it up to get specifics, don't quote me).
Since we developed to run, our bodies need it. for thousands of years before we developed the lazy society of today we were running running running... so we need it like a crack whore needs her fix... or our bodies deteriorate and we die faster.

Not only do we need exercise to retain a healthy metabolism, a sedentary life can lead to many problems. For example, my sister developed a rare cancer to to being overweight and sedentary.
Exercise works your heart, your cardiovascular system, helps with blood circulation, etc...
All the calories we consume need extra energy to burn off. You would have to eat like a bird otherwise :-)
