Good question. Your body produces mucus in your nose and throat to catch any bacteria that try to enter your body when you inhale. The hairs in your nose do the same thing, as well as catch any dust, dander, or anything else that is floating around in the air. That is why you shouldn't pick your nose and should instead always blow it--to get rid of all the germs and dust your nose hairs have collected!

Also, mucus in your throat is there to create a smooth passage for food to get down into your stomach. Mucus also carries germs out of your body (hence, when you cough or blow your nose). It's one of your body's natural defense systems that all people have to help elminate anything that doesn't belong in their bodies!
