I am looking for some foods to include into my new eating lifestyle that have a good amount of fiber in them. Like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, meats, anything. What are your suggestions?

Many fruits and vegetables are good sources of dietary fiber. Whole oats are a great source of fiber. White bread is very low in fiber because the fiber comes from the wheat hulls and that is removed when they make white flour. Be careful when you buy "wheat" bread. Some are not actually that much more beneficial than white bread. It must say "whole wheat" for you to get the fiber benefits. Look for whole wheat in the ingredient listing. You can also look at the nutrition information. If it has about 1.5 -2 grams of fiber per slice, that's pretty good. Beans are probably the best source of nutritional fiber and are usually pretty low fat depending on how you cook them. A half cup serving has an average of six grams of fiber depending on the type of bean or pea. It is currently recommended that you have at least one gram of fiber per 100 calories in your diet, so if you are on a 2000 calorie per day diet, you should have 20 grams of fiber.

Apples are good if you eat the skin. Whole grain breads (check the label before you buy). Raisin bran and most cereals with "bran" in the title. Most fruit and veggies are good for fiber. Most dairy and meat have NO fiber.

Apples, broccoli, any kind of greens (turnip, collard, mustard), kidney beans, great northern beans, 7- grain bread. Meat really isn't fiber-rich...it's protien-rich. Celery is loaded with fiber.

Pears and whole wheat bread have lots of fiber. Oatmeal is also full of it. Try to find Fiber1 brand. It's jam-packed with fiber!
