Cracked tooth syndrome sucks. It may be the most unpredictable thing we deal with in dentistry. The worst thing is, the only way to ACTUALLY know how bad the crack is would be to take the tooth out and look at it. If it was a huge through-and-through crack, you would pat yourself on the back and say, "Wise move." If it is a relatively superficial crack that vears off to the side of the tooth, you'd say, "Oh rats, we could have saved it." An x-ray will not generally show ANYTHING with a cracked tooth, because the parts are not displaced from each other.

Depending on how long you've waited, will determine the extent of the restoration work that needs done. Immediate care would increase your chances of a simple restorative crown. Wait longer and you are talking root canal. Wait even longer and you're talking bridgework.

This isn't a definite but understand the longer you wait the more work needs done and the cost goes up tremendously.
figure a crown and minor work about 500 bucks, add in a root canal and you're talking around 1,000-1,400. with a bridge costing even more than that. Of course, it depends on where you're located and the cost of this type of work in your area.

BTW, most dentists will not simply pull the tooth especially if you're young. Pulling the tool will leave a gap that in turn causes the other teeth to move and change your bite. This causes more problems for you in the future.

Bottom line: Get to the dentist NOW! Call around if you can't afford the expense. There are dentists willing to take payments and can make financial arrangements. You really don't have a choice and the longer your wait....

I just recently had a cracked tooth (bottom molar #18) filled with a composite filling. The pain will only get worse as time goes by and the more you bite down on it, believe me. Everytime you bite down that crack in your tooth is opening up and bacteria could be getting into the center/pulp of your tooth which can later result in root canal or extraction. Make an appointment with the dentist and get this taken care of asap.

you would need to have a crown placed over your tooth in order to safe it. your dentist will shave your tooth down to a point and place a temporay crown on it until your permanent crown is made from the lab which takes about 2 weeks. then the permanent crown is cemented onto your tooth. good luck. you might want to take care of it asap.

See a dentist right away.

If it's a cracked tooth and you wait to have it treated - bacteria can build up inside it and you'll have worse problems.

Go to the dentist. They won't hurt you, they'll help you up!! if it's sensitive teeth, use sensitive tooth paste. You can find it in market.
