An SD card is Flash Based as in "On a Chip" as in the memory inside an iPod Nano.
A Compact flash unit is "Hard Drive" Based, as in The memory inside an iPod Video.
P.S. "SD" stands for "Secure Digital" and has never stood for SanDisk! Why anybody bothers quoting Wikipedia or any other Wiki is beyond me! If you look hard enough on a Wiki, I bet you will find that I was a 300 year old Satanist who was killed in Valhalla by a Jedi Ninja called Bill Clinton 5 years ago! And some people would actually believe that as fact!
Definition of Wiki - Lies and Bunk rolled up in a swish Web package for the stupid to believe!

Although they both function to 'HOLD' in digital format your computer files (or Images from a digital camera), if you look closely .. you will see a difference in the size of each of these Memory Cards, and how they 'fit' into the device you are using.
I have BOTH CF (Compact Flash -- for My Canon Digital Rebel SLR Camera), as well as SD (Secure Digital -- for my PDA, cell phone, and a couple of other devices) ...
CF is huge compared to the SD cards.
The best thing to do is to CHECK to see what Memory Card your Electronic Device uses .. and then PURCHASE that memory card type.

SD is much thinner than CF, Secured Digital can hold more, the largest SD card I've seen is 2 GB, Largest Compacked Flash is about a 8 gb

Nope.
SD = sandisk (a company that makes products) makes many different types of memory cards
CF = compactflash card (sandisk made some of these)
I've got a 1GB compactflash card for my digital camera. Pick the one that holds the most, if it's cost effective, and that works with your device.
Oh, btw SANTA, I'd like another CF card for Christmas...I promise I'll be good this year. :)

Will Santa go away and only appear at Xmas? (if you must appear at all) Some questions I've wanted to ask
1: Why do you favor rich children and give them more expensive presents?
2: Why do you only give presents to Children in Christian countries?
3: Doesn't your actions mentioned in the questions above make you a bit of a bigot?
