I have read your concerns, most people seem to think I am planning to travel the shortest route. Ken E I want to thank you for your concern, as well as the other Australians out there. I plan to travel the coastal roads, even though it may be longer. Also, try to avoid the bush country, and do most of my bicycling early in the morning between 5 to 10am to avoid traffic, especially trucks. I think it will take me 6 months to a year to plan out this whole trip. Also, if I can make e-mail contacts between now and then, with you friendly Australians I may get some ideas on how to do it as easily and safely as possible. Again thank you, all you nice folks down under from Dennis in Canada.

you will still hit the nullabour plains , it would be unwise to do that bit in summer( people do do it though).
no need to worry about the trucks any more than you would anywhere else. 5 hours cycling a day isn't much though you have a longggggggggggggggggg way to go

'Bonkers' rider sets cycling record
A Perth man has shattered the record for cycling from Sydney to Perth by just over 14 hours.

Tristan Barnes, 23, travelled the 4,000 kilometre journey in nine days, nine hours and 17 minutes.

The previous record was set in 1999.

Mr Barnes says he is thrilled to have made it from one side of the country to the other in one piece.

"I think my family and friends know I'm a bit of a nut so they weren't amazingly surprised," he said.

"I think most people think I'm mad.

"Everyone who we tried to get to witness driving across thought I was bonkers, which was quite funny."
