If you have had Parvo in a house do not bring another dog around . My vet had a dog brought in with parvo and they canceled my appointment for the next day. They said that small dogs particularly are susceptible to Parvo and even though mine had had his shots it might not be safe The vet scrubbed all surfaces down with bleach and did not start taking dogs back in side for almost a week. If I was youI would call my vet andask them about this. Parvo is a nasty nasty disease and even if a doglives through it which few do, it makes them sick for a very verylong time. Good luck -k-

Other readers were correct to say bleach, but I thought I'd add some details. Bleaching inside surfaces (and removing carpet if any) as well as your shoes and, yes, car tires is a good idea. However, most people don't know parvo can live underground for YEARS at a depth of 9-16 inches. I would advise spraying your yard down with bleach ....I mean soaking it to make sure it penetrates deep into the soil. I would do it more than once, a day apart. If your area has little rainfall and hard dirt, try spraying water first to make it a little muddy, then spraying bleach. (Use a hose sprayer attachment and regular bleach.) Wear gloves (and a paper mask) while handling bleach, even outdoors. Keep other pets and children out of the grass as much as possible. One of my dogs got it from the soil, just randomly. As far as inside, any toys, bedding, or anything used/touched/with discharge on it from the sick dog should really be thrown out....if that's not an option, mix hot water and bleach, put said item in the mixture, and allow it to soak for several hours. Again, wear gloves. It's really important that you do this and keep the areas of your house where your dog is allowed really clean for awhile. If you don't clean anything, you run the risk of reinfection, which would probably be fatal for an already weak animal, especially a puppy or new cases in other animals or even people. (yes, there is a human version of the disease....I don't know how you catch it, though) If bleach is out of the question for you (pregnancy, allergies, reactions), use an antiviral cleaner and hot water. Rubbing alcohol would probably work, too, but I don't know that for sure. You might try a feed store if you're looking for something less harsh to use indoors, especially around children. They should be able to help you out. Good luck!

Did you dog have parvo? I would strongly suggest that you contact your local veterinarian's office and pose this question to them. Seek professional advice and don't assume that we the general public know everything. Parvo virus is serious and can kill animals with a compromised immune system.

make sure the environment of the dog is clean & disinfected all the time. When there puppies, there naturally weak & susceptible to any communicable bacteria n viruses so we make sure to wash ist our hands well before touching them. We cant avoid bringing germs but we can minimized it by not letting the dogs play everywhere. If they 're not yet completely immunized they still have the need to be confined in there crates or cages or in a safe area where they cant easily be contaminated.

From what I have been told by my vet is bleach. I also know that bleach is one of the only things to get rid of it outside as well. It usually lays dormant in the winter and is active in the summer.
