Could someone please tell me what the difference is between the two. I understand what a zoom lens does. I understand what macro photography is. I'm just not sure what is different about the acutal lens.

A zoom lens is actually several lenses (elements) that operate together. The design engineers can put together the elements in different ways to accomplish different functions.

A macro lens must be capable of focusing from a distance very close to the subject.

So a zoom lens with macro capability is designed so that it can both zoom and be able to focus close to the subject.

zoom with macro is just a zoom lens that's also capable of taking macro photos...here's an article that has a good explanation of macro photography:
