I hate them! Especially on public transport. Why do people shout in them, people talk utter rubbish on them 'I'm on the bus now' or they swear a lot or talk about their sex lives for all to hear. Five different ring tones at once is ANNOYING. I have one but mine is on vibrate on public transport as I am very conscious of not causing noise pollution to others - have some manners and consideration people! I feel better now I've had a rant.

I don't think they should be banned, but I think people need to use them in a polite manner. I also am amazed how some people use them so callously. I don't want to hear about the green slime that flowed out of one of their orifices while in the bank line. I don't want to hear ow their kid made a big poopy. Its also incredibly rude to people trying to help a customer on a cell phone. The bank teller or grocery clerk may have a question to something to handle with the person on the cell phone-but the cell phone user is so self absorbed that the service provider must wait for them before they can get an answer. I think my biggest problem with SOME people who use cell phones is the complete self absorption they have-----------------and that is a huge problem with our culture today. So, my friend, what is actually bothering us is the lack of respect our culture seems to lack today.

i don't agree with you because cell phones are a part of everyday living now. for the most part a cell phone is the primary means of communication since people are also out of the office or house the majority of the day. there are two positives to cell phones first you can call someone when and where you want, second you can receive calls wherever and whenever. i would be very upset if an emergency arises and i had no communication or if something happened to a family member or loved one, and i don't have a way of being reached. i am sure you would agree with this. However i do believe that people forget where they are when they are on the phone, they are in their own world. people need to be respectful of others, if the call is important walk to the back of the bus, or talk softly. i think there needs to be a compromise where all people can live in harmony and peace.

Not banned, as they do have their uses. More specifically, they should be used in moderation in public and people should certainly be more circumspect when speaking in an area where others can overhear their personal conversations.

I agree in that I do not care to hear about the things that should be kept private and ordinarily would be if the cell-phone had not emerged.

For emergencies while on a trip, or keeping tabs on the children, etc they are fine. But, phone etiquette must and should be observed as in any other public, or social situation.

I couldn't agree with you more; cell-phone users are the new smokers, people with no manners who think 'freedom' means the right to be rude.

The ones who talk in public are bad enough, but the ones who use them while driving are a menace to public safety. Fortunately laws are showing up banning this, and I expect them to be universally outlawed in cars within a couple of years, just the way drinking and driving is outlawed, and for the same reasons.

My mobile is not that important to me. It actually irritates me as does a normal phone. I do not like speaking on any type of phone. What gets to me the most is when you are with a person you have not seen for ages. You have made special arrangements and there next door neighbour phones and they discuss whatever for ages and ages. I just get up and walk out and they just cannot understand why it is rude to talk on a phone while they have visitors. No-one is welcome in my home if they are going to sit and txt and talk on the phone all the time. A Cell-phone has its uses, for emergencies , when travelling etc , that is my opinion.:(

I don't agree to it being banned, but I agree to your comments about the users. The mobile phone is not a problem, but many of the users are a big nuisance in public. I hope one day, someone will invent something that will switch off the phone automatically everytime a user talks loudly or yells to the phone, or when obscenities are uttered into it. That will make my day, and yours too.

I quite agree with you. IMHO, most bad drivers have a phone stuck to their ear. People even do "live" banking, paying for purchases in stores and talking to others while using a cell phone. There is nothing worse than someone answering the phone loudly during a movie and having a long (and often too personal/risque) conversation.

I admit I own one. However much to the annoyance of all aquaintences and family who can never reach me on it, I maintain strict practices in it's use.
A) Always turned off until I want to make an outgoing call.
B) used for outgoing calls only. Then only in emergency.
C) NEVER GIVE THE NUMBER TO ANYONE
D) Leave it in the boot of the car when you arrive anywhere.
E) Live your life as though you don't own one

An ignorant woman about six months ago had the nerve to Shush me while I was in a cafe for scaping the chair while she was screaming down a mobile phone, telling me she couldn't hear because of the noise I was making !!!!! You can imagine my reaction ! @#!#!@$%$#@ till she got my drift and walked outside, offended by me for not having the courtesy to shut up and put my life on hold while she conducted a slanging match with god knows who on the other end of her portable machine from hell.

Well they certainly should not be on all the time, but they're good in case of emergency or something. But they are just an annoyance the way so many ppl are addicted to them. They should be banned (and HEAVY FINES) for using one while driving though. Should be same penalty as driving drunk, since they make you just a bad a driver as drinking does.

Untill 5 years ago I'd got through 35 years of my life happily without one then for some strange reason I decided to buy one and now I wouldn't be without one, so I guess I disagree about banning but agree with you on the annoyance factor of them!
