Lexapro 10 mg is a very low dose. It takes normally 2 -3 weeks for it to start working. Other anti-depressants can take up to 6 weeks before you fully begin to feel its benefits.
Also, its rare that the Dr. hits the correct doseage for you on the first try. It is more a lets see how this is if we need to we can increase the dosage. Also, you might need to take it with another medication to boost its effect You should know there is a great chance of having a side effect: weight gain/fatigue/dry mouth/headaches/nausea/lack of sex drive.
If you must come off it then do it slowly under the direction of your Dr. or you will have worse results. My son took it and it did not help him. When he was coming off of it he had severe /severe headaches. You also can get flu or cold like symptoms, This might sound scary but you should know the full ramifications of taking any drug.
Since, you're only just on it....don't make the mistake of thinking this will be a cure. Sometimes you will feel better or worse. It will be a be an everchanging road.
Good luck. Therapy does help and it does get better

It is probably the case that your dose needs adjusting. Tell your experience to your doctor. In your depressed times if your are having suicidal thoughts, it may be the Lexapro. It could also be you have some anxiety along with your depression which might need a short term trial of a 2nd medicine. Try and give the Lexapro a month.

Yes it is. I had that happen on Lexapro the first few weeks. However after that it did not help my depression at all. I went off of it and went into a depression and finally went back to the doctor and was put on Cymbalta which is working somewhat better for me.
Personally, from experience, I would advise you not to try it longer than four weeks. If it does not work by then or if your depression is worse, you need to change medications.
Good luck to you. Depression is a rough thing, but keep trying and something will work.

It's too soon to be concerned. You won't even get used to the effects until 2 weeks. Give it a chance.
In the meanwhile... Tell your doctor everything you are experiencing at your next visit and if necessary they will adjust your meds accordingly. If you have feelings that you feel are threatening to you in any way or if you feel ill, call your doctor immediately!
But consider an alternative therapy.
The cuckoo bird up above is right... even if he does get a little over zealous about it?

yes and no. Your body is getting adjusted to it and you should feel the real effects of the medication in about 3 weeks time of starting it. After this you'll need to keep track and see if it is still having different effects on you as it may need to be increased to 20 mg (like me) and or you could have to try a different medication. Just keep in constant communication with your doctor and their nurse or your phsycologist/phsyciatrist

Talk to your prescribing doc about the symptoms. Hopefully you are not drinking alcohol or using controlled substances. These can make depression worsen.
Also medication needs to be part of a program that includes therapy. Talk with a therapist about this too.
