I am having a terrible time getting my son off of the bottle. He only takes a bottle when he is going to sleep (I know that's bad) so how do I take away his comfort bottle???

One method to try, if he is getting milk from the bottle, swap it out for water. Our hardest bottle to get rid of was the morning bottle. I started on a Monday when dad was back at work, and we were in a weekday routine (and also because he didn't have another parent to beg).

On Monday, I replaced the milk in his bottle with water and put the milk in a cup (get the Nu-by ones, they are an easier transition). I left the milk cup by his breakfast. I got him out of bed, offered the water bottle, which he didn't want, and I promptly put him in the high chair with the milk cup. It took about three days, and all bottles were gone from our house.

Maybe since this is a night bottle, try the same, just letting him know that if he is thirsty, it is okay, but he will drink from a cup, not a bottle.

Good luck, it isn't fun. Also, I'm not sure what your ped. said, but mine said he wouldn't press too hard about getting rid of the bottle until 18 months. We were bottle free at 16 months.

The way that I weaned my son was a very simple and painless process... for the most part. We woke up one morning, I didn't give him a bottle, a snack, some cheerios, baby food or anything. All that I provided was his formula (for you it could be milk since he is older) in a sippy cup and basically said, if you want something to eat or drink, this is your choice. My son was was miserable for about 4 or 5 hours until finally he gave in. A little after noon, he was exhausted and drank the whole thing and then fell asleep for a nap. When he woke up, I fed him anormal meal and gave him his drink in a sippy cup and we never looked back. It is just a matter of not giving in to the crying and whining and misery. Just remember, he will just be miserable temporarily. It will pass.

Good luck.

Throw them away. Yeah you will have to listen to him cry but he will get used to it. Play some soothing music at bedtime and comfort him as much as you can. You just have to do it. I mean you don't want him to be one of those kids who is 2 and still has a bottle.

Try to give it to him only at night for a while during the day give him am sippy cup after he has forgot about it through out the day try to replace his night bottle with a sippy. it will be harder for you than him be strong and he will lead by example. The longer you wait the harder it will be on the both of you.

Just stop giving it to him. Cuddle with him at first and then start to ween him off that. In other words substitute the bottle for you and then slowly move farther from him as he falls asleep. That worked for me.
