I have a 2001 Ford mustang convertible with dual flowmaster side exhaust. The car drives fine but when I am in 5th gear on the interstate or goiong up a steep hill, it starts to what I call sputter, like I have a leak, but I know I don't, I just had that fixed. What can I do or have done to fix this problem?

sounds like 5th is to high of gear to pull a steep hill, try a lower gear

Are your RPM"S getting to low to stay in 5th? I can't go into 5th and maintain a solid 2 1/2 rpm's untill i'm doing like 70-75 mph in my 01 mustang. Once it starts to drop below that it starts to lag and I have to downshift into 4th and it's fine. What tranny is in yours? Also, how long have you owned the car?

sounds like engne `lugging' that is you've fallen below useable torque in RPM range 5th gear is overdrive, you need to be at least hwy speeds in this gear. if you drop below say45-50 up a steep grade in 5th you need to downshift to lower gear to stay in useable powerband. watch your tachometer when driveing normally. feel the power & acceleration @ 2--3--4000RPM?Where is it when it acts up? if below say 2k= 2300RPM you need to downshift to raise eng. RPM to adequate powerband. try it you'll like it!
