Why do folks kiss it? Is the ring that the Pope and the Cardinals wear of the same design?

The Papal ring is called "The Ring of the Fisherman". A new ring is cast for each individual Pope. Read up on it here:

Is it made of glass?
So when you kiss-it, you are kissing the Popes glass?

They worship them as gods! the ring has no meaning in a life following jesus.
