My first reaction was, "take him away!" But then I put myself in the mother's shoes. If she's doing everthing possible that she knows to do to try to help him lose weight, then someone (gvmnt) should step in & offer some kind of help for him other than taking the poor child away! It might cause his overeating to increase because of depression! No, I had to put myself in that child's place, too. How scary to be taken from your own mother, no matter how desperate you might be to get help. If the mother DOESN'T think her son has a prob, then SHAME on her! She's killing him, literally! Govmnt should still step in & make BOTH of them go to nutrition classes. Maybe he could go away for a while to a place that could help him and he could return home occasionaly, like a camp for obese boys. Either way, something needs to be done, but the home should not be destoyed in the process.

This is such a hard subject to talk about due to the fact that the mom is not trying to hurt him intentionally....but I do feel that they should have a live in nurse or meal provider to take charge of his meals and dailey exersize....can you imagine how upset the poor child would be if he were ripped from the only home and mother he knew....thats just not right....it is very costly to pay foster parents so why not just get mom and him the in house help they need

If this child has a medical problem which caused his weight problem, then no they should not but if the child has no medical problem and he is allowed to eat just to keep him quiet then I agree they should until the parents can be programmed into better parenting skills. I think a child that young that weighs that much at a young age is subjected to diabetes and heart problems. I hope him or her the best. A good diet and discipline is better then health issues. I was heavy as a boy and still battle health problems.

well i didnt hear the whole story, just bits and pieces. but i think that a doctor needs to check him out to see if it is a medical reason. if it isnt, then he should definately be taken away, it is a parents job to teach healthy living habits and letting a child get that obese should not be tolerated. the poor kid will have a really hard time getting back to a healthy weight.

What are they going to do with the kid? If it's just stick him in foster care, then no, absolutely not, they should stay the hell out. But if they're going to put him in some kind of treatment center or fat camp, then I think they should
