It depends what you want to spend.....They range from maybe $50.00 a set to well over $1,000.00.
I just got a set for Christmas--it's Calphalon, and I LOVE it---I think it was around $150.00.
Some cooks swear by copper pans, others prefer stainless steel...I like non-stick for easier clean-up.
What it really boils down to is this:
A good cook can make great food on whatever cookware he/she has available!

I just replaced my t-fal set that I had for 12 years. The nonstick coating doesn't flake off like the cheaper stuff does. I buy a lot of generics but in cookware I want my T-fal.

I prefer the hard adonized. But for things like fried chicken, pancakes, that sort of thing I like a cast iron skillet. What kind of foods do you usually cook?

After reading all the answers I have to agree with cop_ace. I personally use Stainless. But even an average cook can adapt to what ever he or she has or can afford.

T-Fal all the way... it may not be the 'best for cooking' for an expert chef... however, it is the easiest to clean and take care of and not have to scrape food out of

It really depends on what you are going to prepare. I use cast iron when frying, copperclad for fresh veggies and stainless for stews and soups. I try to stay away from teflon and other no sticksa

I think stainless steel. You dont have to worry about all that non stick stuff flaking off in your food. I love my set.

Caphalon is my brand, stovetop to oven is no problem. Get the anodized aluminum w/nonstick coating.
