So my tattoo artist told me to apply the A&D Ointment for the first 5 days, 4 times a day, and I did, and there after I should apply a non-scented lotion to the tattoo 3-4 times daily. I bought Curel Ultra Healing (Non-scented, non-greasy, non-comedogenic [doesn't clog pores]) and have been using it for about a week now, works wonderful, no complaints, tattoo is completely healed. My question is, should I apply the dab of lotion to it 4 times a day for the rest of my life, or just for a few more weeks? If I choose to apply it, like I have (if it's not necessary) is there any harm in that?

After it is healed just a regular moisturizing is fine like after your shower.. I have 3. If you go out in the sun though.. be sure to use sunscreen to prevent it from fading. Enjoy your new tat..

Once its healed you don't have to apply lotion 4 times a day, you don't even have to apply lotion everyday. Though when your skin dries out your tattoos can look faded or chalky, so staying hydrated or putting a lotion on daily can help the tattoo look its best.
If you do decide to apply lotion all the time, there is NO harm in it, so lather away. Do what you think is best for the tattoo and of course, if you aren't sure, talk with tattoo artists and collectors. Good luck.

No Alex even though the soreness is gone your tattoo is NOT healed and won't be until your body replaces the entire layer of skin cells that was tattooed through. (6 to 8 weeks). Until then I would for sure put lotion on the tattoo. Myself, I keep a bottle of lotion in my desk at work and whenever I open the drawer and see it I end up putting it on. (at least a couple of times a day) I look at it this way .......my tattoo is a piece of art that I have something invested in. I plan on keeping it in the best of condition.
good luck with your new piece of art

I got my tattoo October 20. I still put lotion on it sometimes because it makes the colors look deeper. I haven't had any problems with it. You do not have to apply lotion four times a day anymore. That's only for the first few weeks.

once your tattoo is healed you do not have to continue putting lotion on it any more often than you would the rest of your skin. i apply lotion to my body once or twice a day but i don't use any special lotion, just whatever i feel like using at the time. the more moisturised you keep your skin the better it will age.

It takes about two weeks total for a tatt to heal completely. I would apply SOME lotion to it, but beware of applying too much! If it gets too much moisture, the ink in your tatt will come out, and you will need to do touch ups! I am covered in tatts, and I usually only apply lotion three times daily, and mine heal great. If you have any questions, go back to your artist and ask away!

Once it has healed you shouldn't need to do anything to it. They're pretty much a natural part of your skin. But I'd recommend using the lotion for a few more days just to keep it supple and let it set in.

It's not necessary to apply lotion to it that often but it wouldn't hurt just to keep your skin moisturized. The more moisturized your skin is, the better your tattoo would look I would think..

I have had each of my tattoo's for a while now and I put lotion on them from time to time. I wouldn't say regularly, just when I think about it. It really does help though.

You don't have to keep it lotioned up, but doing so will keep your tattoo appearing vibrant. More important is to keep your tat protected with sunblock of SPF 45 or higher. It'll prevent damage from UV rays that will age and fade your investment even through clothing.
