My wife is a nontraditional surrogate for a Japanese Couple. They purchased her a Kimono in the beggining of the surrogacy. I want this to be a suprise so I dont want to ask them directly. I am an aspiring photographer I took pictures of my wife in the Kimono 28 weeks of the pregnancy. Would it be offensive culturally if she is standing to the side with the kimono pulled aside revealing only the belly? Thanks for your input guys.

I am an aspiring photographer I took pictures of my wife in the Kimono 28 weeks of the pregnancy. Would it be offensive to the general Japanesse culture if she is standing to the side with the kimono pulled aside revealing only the belly? We are very close too the couple and I have asked them if our maternal pictures are offensive to them. They are very into getting pictures with my wife being pregnant so they wont be offended by her carrying the babies. I am more concerned with the General Japanese perception on whats offensive or not

as a semi-pro artist photogragher myself, it is not offensive , however the japanese are a modest people. show them the photo if you like, they may or may not like it . don't be discouraged if they don't. if they want a copy let them ask.

I think it sounds beautiful, for yourselves. But I am not sure about sending a picture of your wife, to another women and her HUSBAND. That would be the main issue. Another man would see it, and I know my husband wouldnt want to see that. Your wife is doing a beautiful thing. Maybe just have her wear the kimono. It could still be beautiful!

A agree with the above poster, keep the photo for yourselves. You could show it to the couple, and see if they have an interest in having a copy of the picture.

i think if their hearts and minds are in the right place, they will see the beauty of it and nothing else. it is about the baby, is it not?
