honestly...each artist charges differently and it all depends on the artist. For example....the tattoo I have...went to one artist and he said he could do it for 100-150...went to one artist and he said he would do the same for $450....ultimately went to the one that charged $450 because of who the artist was and the fact that I felt more confident in his skills....tattoo only took an hour and a half. My tattoo is only 3x2 but it's a portrait ....

your price is going to vary with each artist....most tattoo artists do not charge by the hour but more by the piece...

Honestly, it depends on the style of script (is it gothic, cursive, block, etc.). The shading is going to increase the price, since a second needle set is going to be set up. From the size that you're describing, I would have done the piece for about $75.

Some artists will charge by the letter, with a set minimum.

there is no standard pricing for tattoos. the talent level of the artist should always be taken into consideration. no matter what my artist tattoos he charges $100 an hour. whether it is a solid black square or an intricate piece.

Depends on your artist....the more detail, the more money you will have to dish. Ask what the shop's minimum price is, then go from there. Sometimes you can tell them how much money you have, and tell the artist you want to be able to tip them well. You can usually go from there.

most shops work by the hour, the going rate is about $100 per hour. I'd say 100 bucks or less plus tip

It all depends on the artist and how good he is. I would say about $150 bucks
