How often should you replace your welcome mats that are outside of your front door?

You should replace them according to how you feel about it.

It is your home, your entrance is one of the first areas that will give your visitors a suitable impression of you and your home.

So depending on what you feel is appropriate will determine whether to replace or not.

It really just depends onhow ragged or dirty it is in my opinion. Is it deeply stained so you can't see the picture or words?? Does it have noticable holes or tears in it?? The front welcome mat is what people see first and a nice looking one is usually what people want but at the same time it is what you wipe your feet on.
You just have to decide what you feel is acceptable.

But if you replace it that doesn't mean you should just throw away the old one. It seems a waste of materials to me..especially if its one you liked.

You could always put the old one in your basment if its unfinished, or in a shed or garage. You can also use it in a dog house if its soft, or clean it one time and use it as a knee pad when gardening if its soft. If is the flat rubber kind you can put it under a cat litter box, or under a piece of something heavy in the attic. The possibilities are endless.

If your family gets particularly dirty feet you can make your welcome mat last longer by getting one of those shoe brushes shaped like animals, with bristles on their back. These will clean out mud, dirt, and snow from boots so it doesn't all have to be wiped onto the welcome mat.

I have welcome mats for each season that match the exterior decor of my home. Of course winter and spring wear out much faster, I replaced them after 2 years and so far summer and fall this will be my 3rd year. When they get dirty/worn pitch them. It takes away from the entrance of your home and people may assume the inside of your home will be dirty.

When they're so dirty you can't clean them, get raggedy, or you want something different.

As soon as you wear out your "WELCOME".
