You probably need to read the manual for your answering machine.

For mine, I wait until I hear the announcement and then punch in my code. The machine then tells me how many messages I have. I can then:

1 - play all messages
2 - play new messages
3 - delete messages being played
4 - repeat message
5 - stop playback
6 - skip message
33 - delete all messages
*9 = end call

Check your user's manual. If not available, search online for that product to see if there's a pdf version to view. Also, check your unit. Sometimes this information is on a placard of some sort.

There should be a code that activates message playback function. You can call your phone, when your message prompts, press a number key or sequence of keys on the telephone you're calling from. The messages should play back.
