I actually believe this as my friend's rescued dog came from a reservation where she was really abused. When she was abandoned my friend's family found her (they lived close to the reservation and knew the people who owned her). She is the sweetest dog now except if you call her by her old name or if she sees a native person she gets very distressed and starts crying.

Was your dog abused in the past before you got her?

I had a very similar situation with one of my rescues. Race and sex had a great affect on her. It was assumed that she had a bad experience with someone of that sex and race. It was hard for me because I have a wide spectrum of friends and she would hide and shake when some of my friends were over. To help her overcome this, I brought her to the dog park as often as I could to encourage socialization. It took a lot of time, but she is very friendly now, with everyone.

My bearded uncle once barked at my german shepherd as he came in the door. The dog backed herself into the closet and peed on the floor. She never liked bearded men after that.

Whatever he said must have been really rude.

Was she abused by a white person before coming to your home? That is the only thing that I can think of. That is strange. I have never encountered anything like that before.
