Is there a way to turn this off, and to get it to show up when it is printed?

(Not a table, just a grid that is in the background)

Ok; I kinda rushed the question I think.

There is an untouchable grid in the background of Word; I can't click on it, delete it, select it in a box: it's like a mask. How do I get rid of this?

The grid you are referring to is a merely a layout/placement device. It does not really exist in your document. You would have to create a table to print a grid in your document.

To turn off the grid: Make sure the Drawing Toolbar is on (View>Toolbars>Drawing). On that toolbar, select Draw with the little down arrow > Grid > Uncheck Display Grid.

Build your table, then do the following (you are not going to get away out have the grid show up CRT display, sorry):
Highlight the whole grid. Then you should find a "box" that has small square boxes in it that are outlined, pick that one. Now when you go to print it, it print out the grids like you want.

There are different ways to accomplish the same thing but I am not going to give the complete lessons on "Word" use. If need be get "Dummies for Word".
