.I use Esgic Plus for cluster headaches and Egic Plus works wonders! Esgic Plus is a pain reliever and a relaxant. Use this medicine to treat tension/cluster headaches. Cluster headaches are characterized by an intense one-sided pain centered by the eye or temple. The pain lasts for one to two hours on average and may recur several times in a day.
Cluster headaches have been known as histamine headaches, red migraines, and Horton's disease, among others. The constant factor is the pain, which transcends by far the distress of the more common tension-type headache or even that of a migraine headache.
Cluster headaches afflict less than 0.5% of the population and predominantly affect men; approximately 80% of sufferers are male. Onset typically occurs in the late 20s, but there is no absolute age restriction. Approximately 80% of cluster headaches are classified as episodic; the remaining 20% are considered chronic. Both display the same symptoms. However, episodic cluster headaches occur during one- to five-month periods followed by six to 24-month attack-free, or remission, periods. There is no such reprieve for chronic cluster headache sufferers. Causes and symptoms
Biochemical, hormonal, and vascular changes induce cluster headaches, but why these changes occur remains unclear. Episodic cluster headaches seem to be linked to changes in day length, possibly signaling a connection to the so-called biological clock. Alcohol, tobacco, histamine, or stress can trigger cluster headaches. Decreased blood oxygen levels (hypoxemia) can also act as a trigger, particularly during the night when an individual is sleeping. Interestingly, the triggers do not cause cluster headaches during remission periods.
The primary cluster headache symptom is excruciating one-sided head pain centered behind an eye or near the temple. This pain may radiate outward from the initial focus and encompass the mouth and teeth. For this reason, some cluster headache sufferers may mistakenly attribute their pain to a dental problem. Secondary symptoms, occurring on the same side as the pain, include eye tearing, nasal congestion followed by a runny nose, pupil contraction, and facial drooping or flushing.

Your question doesn't address this, but my advice would be prevention. While I don't know your demographics, cluster headaches are common in middle-age men and are characterized by eye pain, tearing, runny nose, and headpain. They typically "cluster," meaning that you will have them frequently for a while and then they typically remit. Distinguishing features from migraine, in addition to the above, include the inability to lay down or be quiet during the headache. Those with migraine tend to do this, but cluster headache sufferers cannot rest and pace the floor, sometimes banging their head on things in an effort to stop the pain.
So, if you have cluster headache, then your doctor may think about Topamax, Depakote, Steroids, and Calcium channel blockers as preventatives. The only drug approved to stop the headache is Imitrex injection - not tablets or nasal spray, with the 6mg dose being stronger than the 4mg. Oxygen also helps abort the headaches if they are cluster.
See a neurologist with an interest in headache if you can. I hope that helps.

Have you had any neck problems or an accident in the past few months prior to the headaches?
The reason being is my cousin had numerous migranes, before she was 30 and the doctors finally did a x-ray or some scan on her neck and come to find out her neck was messed up since she was born. She had surgery and no more headaches.
I personally would go get a x-ray, and if that wasn't the case I would try a chiropractor, and see if the neck or back of the skull area is all tight and causing the headaches, and get my neck adjusted.

you are refering to pain meds... have you fully changed up other things that could be causing this?
I think you need to sort out the root of the headaches more than discover a new med.
Personally I still get cluster headaches from time to time. Things that I found to help me were breast reduction... getting in better shape... stretching throughout the day... changed my matress... got more comfortable shoes... and reduce stress as much as possible

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck.
Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at

I had headaches for 4 years straight, last 2 had it constantly. tried everything from therapy to drugs. finaly went to a chiropractor. within 2 weeks started to go away, within 2 months gone, has worked for 6 years now. have to see him every 2-3 months. also do not take allergie, or blood pressure meds anymore. be sure to choose one who take x-rays and vidio taped movement of your spine, also only unlocks subluxations (areas of the spine which are not moving any more) stay away from the ones who twist your spine or try to do physical therapy treatments they can injure you! good luck!
