Ending Awkward Pauses?

Question

whenever my girlfriend and i are together, there are always long awkward pauses. and its because i am a very quiet and shy person.
i can never think of anything to talk about
how can i think of things to talk about, or start a long meaningful conversation?
i really like her, and am afraid of losing her

I used 2 have the same problem. Ask her ?s that get her talking so that u don't even have 2 say much- then comment on what she has 2 say. Plan out something 2 tell her later. If u c something cool that day remind urself 2 tell her about it. U can start an ongoing conversation such as a word game or something that goes on 4 days. Try starting a hobby 2gether. It will give u a lot more 2 talk about. Also, make sure u still have a life when she's not around, it will give u interesting stories 2 tell. Don't get nervous- she'll notice if ur uncomfortable- just always b urself. If something weird pops into ur head, say it out loud. Don't b afraid 2 show her who u r. Good Luck!!!

Maybe if you're having these awkward pauses you don't really have a whole lot in common. Do you think that's what it could be? I'm not completely familiar with your relationship, so I can't pinpoint exactly what's going on, but I'd say you'd need to find more common ground in order to get rid of the long pauses. How long have you been in the relationship?

Talk about "random" things that are going through your mind, anything that can be discussed two-way really. Ask her for information about some aspect of her life that you don't know about.

But, after you have been together for a long time and are completely comfortable with each other, pauses/silences won't seem so bad. At that point you won't have to keep talking, you'll just enjoy each other's company regardless.
