Glass isn't that dangerous. As long as you don't slide your feet so you make a 'cutting' move while walking, the callouses on the foot of a regular barefooter are tough enough to keep glass out. Large shards usually lay flat (with the exception of bottle bottoms of course), splinters are rarely a serious problem. I'm always barefoot, have been for ten years, I walk barefoot in the city, at train- and busstations, I see glass laying around regularly and while I wouldn't step on one of those bottle bottoms, I never divert my path when I see it, I just take care not to shuffle my feet. I have never had a cut, and I get a tiny splinter maybe once a year. I'm not a dog owner so I don't know how often dogs get splinters but in my own experience glass isn't as dangerous as many people think. Dogs have pretty tough pads too!

They can't - they rely on you to do the protection for them. You can buy boots for them, or you can watch where your dogs walking. Barepaw dogs are fine - just gotta keep a good eye out.
Their pads are tough - but they're no match for the likes of glass and such.

well dogs are supposed to be barefoot! i dont really like the idea of animals wearing shoes or stuff. just stay away from sharp objects. it's not very often that you'll come across really sharp objects, and when yu do just aviod it. even if they had "booties" it could still get in the shoe so why not just let them go barefoot :)

Dogs tend to notice a lot more than us so they can avoid the bigger bits of glass and the pads on their feet are a lot thicker than humans skin so the smaller bits can`t penetrate them.

That's the problem, they can't... So when inconsiderate people leave their garbage laying around, not only are they helping to destroy the environment and make the whole community look crappy, they are endangering dogs and cats who like to walk barefoot!

Well the way I see it, it can't really hurt them (i think) unless it gets lodged between their little pad things on their feet. If my dog is playing outside in the snow, if she stays out there to long, little 'ice-lits' get between her toes (pad things). She will try to get them out, but i help her. Why the question??

The padding on their paw, but they still hurt their feet, it's not good for them to walk on glass.

they have pads on their feet and they'll walk around it. but dogs sometimes do get their feet cut up. you can buys shoes for them if you want, though i never have and my dog has been in 45 states, hiking in mountains and all sorts of stuff and her paws are fine :)
peace
