Still using a crock pot my folks bought me back in 1979. Never ever went out of favor (or flavor) with me! Find one that has the pottery insides that come out for easy clean. Must have low and high heat settings - and any new type choices of how to place the settings is probably fine.
No need for recipes if you just go to the grocery to the pre-seasoned beef or pork roasts and just stick them in the crock on low for 8-10 hours with just a pinch of water (like to wash out the seasonings from the packet to add back into the crock). And when you get home, all you need to cook are the veggies or rice and such. With some recipes, you can put the veggies in with the meat, so you can do all at once in one crock pot dish.
Never turn yours in to a garage sale, unless you've updated. This is a cooking device that you will use life-long. Well worth the investment!

I never really thought of a crock pot as being cool or not. I suppose they are sort of a throwback to the casserole era of the 50s, but they're awesome for the lazy cook. Toss in a roast, go to work, come home to a yummy dinner.
The main thing to look for in buying one is whether or not the pot itself will come out of the base. Some of the cheaper, smaller models are one piece, and it's real hard to get them clean. Definately make sure you get one that the pot will come out so you can put it in the dishwasher.

Crock Pots are so cool! Throw in some meat and veges and water (or stock, or soup, or wine, whatever!) and leave it to cook all day. You come home to the smell of a wholesome home-cooked meal, and it tastes great! The meat just falls off the bone, it's so tender. Serve with salad, rice, chorizo, potatoes, or crusty bread.
I recommend the Kambrook brand. If you don't receive a recipe book with the crock pot, check your local library or bookstore.

Crock Pots(also called slow cookers) are awesome! Every good cook has one.I actually have two! When you have a busy day ahead, just put everything in the Crock Pot and when you get home, there is a delicious dinner waiting for you. I highly recommend the "Fix It and Forget It" cookbooks. They are great. They have several different ones out now(Fix It and Forget It, Fix It and Forget IT for Entertaining, etc...) You can also check out www.allrecipes.com and type in slow cooker for lots of great recipes.

They seem to be making huge come back. They have always been a great easy way of having a meal ready for when you get home. There are some really great and easy recipes too. Here are two sites I have found good information on about them.

For great cooks, they never went out!
Just google "crock pot recipes"--there's millions of great ones.
With a little prep time the evening before, tomorrows dinner cooks itself, ready when you get home. What could be better? (well, other than a stay at home spouse or personal chef)

I never knew they really went out of style!
They are a great way to cook Roast Beef and make Chicken Soup.
Types; I can't say I can think of any off the top of my head. Sorry.

I don't know if they are "cool"....
But however they are soooo convenient
Dump in some meat and maybe a can of mushroom soup over it in the morning, go to work, and yay, no stress when you get home, LOL.
