We are going to a wedding in the Northridge, CAL area in the fall, and my daughter wants to see Laguna Beach. Any good tips for visiting there? What to see, do, where to eat & shop? THANKS! (she's 14 and never been to Calif.)

About 80 miles or a few more. Laguna is a beautiful small artsy town with a european geographical coastal feel to it.. Populated by artists, gays, and affluent peoples.
You just drive down the 133 to the beach from the 5 or 405 freeways and it takes you right into town. The Beach House is a good restaraunt or the hotel next to the beach has an outdoor patio restaraunt for a nice lunch on the beach--- The beach is small but lively. There are about 10 blocks of touristy area to walk around where you will fine trendy little stores, ice cream shops, and art galleries. It is a very quiet and nice day to spend. It will not be anything like the tv shows.
I think she will rather enjoy Universal City Walk which is right at Universal Studios and only 20-30 miles from city walk. It is an outdoor 'cool' mall that you find at the studios tour entrance. Many restaraunts and neat shops. Many studio people/ directors/etc have there offices above the shops. In the eve there are street entertainors. A great day would be to hit the studios around 11-noon and then dinner and walking around the City Walk in the eve. Or the studios early and back to hotel if close and then to city walk for the eve. She will think City Walk is 'cool'... because it is! I personally would take her to UStudios and Disneyland. If you havent been to Disneyland it is 100% a must for adults as well as kids.

Another place to visit could be the SantaMonica Prominade or Melrose Avennue shops area.

Downtown Long Beach at the end of the 710fwy has a nice Aquarium and the Queen Mary. The queen Mary has tours and it is a good thing to see once in your life. Downtown LB is full of restaraunts and shps around the Marina. The purple busses are free and loop around downtown. If you choose not to stop in Long Beach it is a good drive through on the way to Laguna. The famous LB Grand Prix car race is the road around the downtown.
Remember traffic can be tough so tune into KFI AM 640 for traffic updates each 10 minutes. 95.9 is good listening station. When driving you must alot double the normal time you would think it would take to get somewhere... and if you are lucky you will arrive earlier. Take advantage of car pool lanes if you can.

You could also take her for a walk around the USC campus which may influence her mind toward education. Next to USC are the museums and Rose Gardens (you always see someone getting wedding pictures taken here). A 'great' science center, natural history museums etc. This is off the Harbor 111 fwy at the Exposition exit. Worthwhile as well.

Its not worth the drive, go to Malibu. Its a lot closer. Your not going to see the kids from Laguna Beach on MTV in Laguna, sorry.
