Well it depends on what part of Long Island your Planning to go..Lets say your going to the middle of Long Island, right? Then that would probably take you at least 45 min on the LIRR from Penn-Station.

Actually across from the East River. Queens and Brooklyn ARE in Long Island. It may be a 30-45 minute commute (too much traffic) to get to Nassau County.

Wow, if people don't know anything about this, they shouldn't answer. Ferry rides? Long Island is NYC? (Queens and Brooklyn are on Long Island, and are part of NYC, but I don't think that's what this person means.)
It depends where on Long Island. It's very LONG, as the name implies. From East Hampton, it takes several hours. From, say, Mineola, maybe half an hour.

LONG ISLAND IS GOING EAST OF NYC AND ITS A STRIP OF LAND THAT IS ABOUT 100+ MILES LONG AND APPROX. 7-10 MILES WIDE SO IT REALLY DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU ARE GOING. FROM QUEENSBORO BRIDGE OR OTHER BRIDGES THAT CONNECTS MANHATTAN(NYC) TO QUEENS TO REACH THE FIRST TOWN OF LONG ISLAND IS ABOUT 5-7 MILES REACHABLE BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT. TRY TO GET TO GOOGLE TO GET ADDRESS AND COMPLETE LOCATIONS OF WHATEVER YOU WANT TO GO TO.
