Or should I ask her mom if there is anything she really
would like right now? Her graduation isn't until May
but I would like to be ready to give the gift a little
early because my kids go to school until that day
and we will not be able to attend her graduation (she
lives in tx and we live in nc).

I would suggest a very nice charm bracelet with only a few significant charms on it. Perhaps a graduation cap being the first charm or a heart to show your love. Not only is this a nice present but she can add to it with significant charms throughout the course of her life. Such as a house charm for her first house, or a dollar symbol for her first job, see where I'm going with this?

Depending on the age of your niece and if this is to be a college, grad-school or high school graduation; I would say that the answer to those questions would be a determining factor in providing the right gift.

High school - College items are always appreciated.

College - Something that would serve her well in her chosen profession.

Grad-School - Again, something that would be useful to her in the field she degreed in. Also, another possibility would be a weekend getaway somewhere where she can be pampered after all of the work, expense and stress of attaining her degree.

However, money is always needed, appreciated and spent very quickly and then forgotten.

My son's favorite gift he got was from his Aunt, She made him a beautiful photo Album and put pictures from when he was a baby straight up until Graduation in it he loves it.

On the front page She wrote a letter to him telling him how special he is and noted all the little things he has done in the past to help her out and make her smile.

On the last page she added a prayer for him

Money is truly the best thing as a graduation present. Or if your willing to spend some cash a laptop is also essential. Their are some good used laptops out their that have been refurbished by dell. Check into it.

My niece has always loved when I bought her a gold necklace or a ring, something that will last. But, I'd simply ask her for a list of at least 5 ideas for you to consider. Either buy her one, send her money or, ask her where she loves to buy her clothes and pick up a gift card for her so she can buy what she likes.

She's an adult, I wouldn't go through her mother.

Useful gifts are always nice, but not necessarily fun or remembered. A nice string of pearls or a piece of jewelry that she'll be able to wear for years to come.

A pre-loaded gas card for her favorite service station! Costly to keep the horses under the hood fed these days.

Ask her mother what she wants.

Or, even better, and I would definitely suggest doing this-- ask your niece what she'd like. Have her give you a few different options. It's better to get her something she'd want, then something her mother would think she'd like, unless the two are close.

Good luck!

A nice shirt and pair of pants, with some cool shoes and a pair of funky sunglasses, I live in Texas. Trust me it gets hot, and clothes are in, especially if she plans to enjoy her summer...

I am just going to give my neice money. I found a beautiful ring that she will love, but her birthday is in May too, so I will give the ring for her birthday.
