What grade are you in? What level of project do you need to do? I've always liked the experiment where you use a potato to generate electricity, but there are a *ton* of ideas out there - try googling! I've put one basic example of the search as the source.

What John p says is true about the pickles. I did that one with my son for his science project. But instead of letting it pop you just stop andthen eat it. He says it taste good and every body looks at you a little bit in awe cause you lit up a pickle. The science behind it is that the sodium from the pickling provides the electrical conductivity. That simply means that it provides just the right amount of minerals for the electricity to flow through without damaging (shorting out ) the pickle. Now the longer you leave the prongs hooked the the brighter the pickle lights up. That is because as sodium is consumed there is less of it to conduct electricity and so resistance increases. until your pickle starts to burn and pops(the filament going in a lite bulb) . No more lite and maybe splat all over everyone and perhaps a reprimand for allowing what someone might consider a hazardous situation. Flying pickle gunk can get in someone's eye. Good luck with your project.

My favorite was cooking a hot dog with two forks. (1) appliance cord. Then solder two wires (black on one fork) (white on the other fork), Stick one fork in a block of wood, and the other fork in a block of wood. Put the hot dog in between.
Plug in the cord into the wall socket. In approx 1 min. you should have a cooked hot dog ready to eat.

How about two giant Dill pickles. Do the same thing, Watch them glow like a florescent light bulb. Invite on of the professors to take a closer look. Tell him to keep a close eye on it and let you know when the glow goes out and starts to crackle a bit. Make sure you are at least ten feet away, right about now, before the Pickle explodes. It is a good laugh.
